Zebra Underfoot: Cut-Work Marble Floor

My partner Jim and the client designed this elaborate zebra-skin floor pattern. Together we tediously cut and set the heated floor using 12"x12" marble tiles. This floor makes quite an impression in the music room of this fantastically unique home, and has become the 'place to be.'

Open Look for a Small Space: Glass Tile Shower

For this corner shower, I tiled two walls then built-out the clear glass stall. The unique gradient tile pattern was achieved by mixing-up 12"x12" glass-tile panels.

"Doye has worked with us on several projects and not only does he show both craftsmanship and attention to detail, from the standpoint of "hard Yankee greenbacks”, Doye treats your project as if it were truly his own. When working with several complex jobs that would normally have been both costly in time and materials, Doye came up with creative solutions that saved our family thousands of dollars. Believe me when I say we have engaged many contractors throughout the years and without doubt, Doye is the only professional we have worked with who understood not only our needs, but how to get the job done on time while keeping under budget. What a breath of fresh air!"

Long-Lasting Weather-Proof Decking

This client had a painted plywood deck that was rotting through and was not structurally sound. The job required me to cut it down to the joists and rebuild it to be completely waterproof. Built with a slight slope to allow drainage.

Extensive Deck Refurb: Rails, Glass Panels & Stain

This California redwood deck had previously been treated with semi-transparent stain. To bring it back to its original richness, I completely sanded the deck down then dismantled the railings and also planed/sanded them down to raw wood. I restained and sealed the entire structure with redwood clear coat.

Easy Shower Sprucer: Glass Tile Mosaic Detail

The client wanted an affordable, easy remodel of their shower/bath. We went with classic white porcelain tiles then added this mosaic detail for an inexpensive, stylish finish.
"We have used Doye for several of our home projects, from rebuilding our patio to tiling our kitchen floor/entryway, and continually receive nothing but compliments from anyone who sees his work. We could not be happier with the results. He was able to complete all the work in the timeline he gave us and was in constant communication with us throughout the process. We look forward to working with him on more projects in the future!"

Seattle Staple: Deck Refinish

Before

After
You can try to avoid it, but eventually any wood deck in Seattle is going to need some TLC. This usually requires pressure-washing, sanding and scraping, followed by one or more coats of stain and/or water-seal.

Deck Rebuild: Same Look, All-New Structure

This client requested a deck rebuild—after 30 years the previous deck was showing its age. With a beefed-up structure and all new treated wood, this deck should last at least another 30 years.

Spec Home: Custom Spa Bathroom

For our part in this custom steam/bath room, partner Jim and I installed heated floor tile and shower pan, floor-to-ceiling wall tile, window wrap and vertical glass tile finish for the jet tub.
"Doye Simons' work is very detailed and he is very thorough in doing exactly what is needed and more. He went out of his way to get two nice quality matching faucets at a discounted price for a job he was working on for me when he could have just bought the bland  standard faucets most plumbers would install! He has a great demeanor and it is easy to discuss your wishes and needs with him and have it done right."

Kitchen Update: Stone Backsplash & Window Wrap

To blend with the client's new hickory cabinets and granite countertops, I added this 6"x6" tile backsplash, set in a diamond pattern with stone accent strip. The matching window wrap finished the look of this total kitchen remodel.

Fences to Mend...and Build

I've built a variety of fences and gates for clients, each one unique. Shown here, the top fence was built for someone who wanted to start fostering large dogs. The second shot shows some of my work on an uneven incline. And finally, a photo of a custom gate and fence I crafted.

Kitchen Floor Update: Linoleum to Tile

Before

After
For this worn, busy-print linoleum floor, I used porcelain tile to create an interesting woven pattern. The design matched the space perfectly and is a great way to start updating any room.
"Doye has done both plumbing and landscaping work for us, and at all times he was thorough, professional and completed the job at a fair price. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Doye for any handyman project."

Coffin Tiles: Custom Hand-Cut Style

Partner Jim and I cut out coffin shapes from marble tiles to create this one-of-a-kind wainscoting, mirrored by the mini coffin tiles in the shower.

Retro Ease: Vinyl Composite Tile

Durable, long-lasting VCT flooring is an easy pick-me-up with a retro vibe. The client wanted to go solid for this smaller space, but VCT tiles look great in patterns too.

Subway Tile: Bath Update

Straight-forward white tile takes on a fresh feel when it's bricked in a subway style. Stone detail ties back to the floor tile for a cohesive look.
